Evaluation of Materials
Evaluation of Materials
The optoelectronic and thermophysical properties of materials are important for designing devices to which the materials are applied.
-
1.Oxidation and Reduction Potential
The oxidation/reduction potential is a useful indicator that can evaluate the HOMO and LUMO energy levels of a material. We can evaluate oxidation and reduction potentials by cyclic voltammetry.
-
2.Emission spectrum and Emission quantum yield
When a material is used as an emitter for OLED and other applications, its emission spectrum and emission quantum yield should be evaluated for the device design. We can measure luminescence spectra in solution and thin film and evaluate emission quantum yield in solution state.
-
3.Absorption spectrum
The absorption spectrum measurement is useful to estimate HOMO-LUMO energy gap of the material from the absorption edge.
In case of solar cell application, the absorption or transmittance spectrum is important for the salar cell design. -
4.External Measurement
We can evaluate the following items with use of equipment at external institutions.
Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)
└This can be used to evaluate the melting point, glass transition temperature, etc. of materials.
T1 level measurement (phosphorescence measurement)
└Triplet energy level of a material can be evaluated.
Absolute fluorescence quantum yield measurement
└Instead of relative fluorescence quantum yield, we can measure absolute fluorescence quantum yield of materials in both of thin film and solution.
Fluorescence/phosphorescence lifetime measurement
└Fluorescence and phosphorescence lifetime can be evaluated.
